Indigenous Literacy Stakeholders & Partnerships

It is important to identify the stakeholders in your community who need to be considered when planning indigenous literacy projects for your library. Potential partnerships for your library’s indigenous literacy project include organisations in your community who may already be providing programs for and working with indigenous people. They may be from the business, education, cultural, community services, government or not-for-profit sectors, or individuals working in the field.

Some examples may include:

• Council of Elders or other community representative groups
• Council Aboriginal Liaison or Community Development Officer
• Aboriginal Advisory Council
• Families
• Others in the community with the same cultural or linguistic background
• Employers
• Neighbourhood centres
• Employment agencies
• Community welfare groups
• Charities
• Church groups
• Schools
• TAFE
• Community colleges
• Businesses
• Health service providers
• Community legal centres
• Government departments, agencies and services
• Parenting networks
