Contacts and Resources

Identifying groups and organisations relevant to libraries and literacy, and also groups and organisations relevant to different literacy types, is an important part of your research. Being aware of the work of these groups and organisations will help at all the different stages of your literacy endeavours, from research through to program development, and will also allow you to start identifying contacts and networks for support.

To gain an understanding of the breadth and depth of literacy needs in your community you will need to identify other groups and organisations, both in your community and external to it, which may:

  • Be already providing some sort of literacy program
  • Have connections with the groups you want to target
  • Have conducted research or collected resources that will inform your work
  • Be impacted by, or have some impact on, your potential involvement in this area

Your research into these contacts and resources will allow you to identify stakeholders, which can often then lead to identifying potential partnerships.
